Open Data with actesy

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella didn’t want to experience this wonderful moment alone. That’s why he brought powerful help to the stage of the Conference Center in Orlando, Florida, at Microsoft’s major «Ignite» event. Nobody less than Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, and Shantanu Narayen, CEO of Adobe Systems, took him to the center to announce the founding of the Open Data Initiative. Their common goal was to unify the data structures of the three companies. Today, this data is still hidden in different silos – depending on the source where it is generated: eCommerce, enterprise solutions, the Internet of Things or social media, to name just a few.

The main aim is to ensure that joint customers have a uniform view of the data in the systems and, as Bill McDermott put it, «summarize the consumer’s experiences as if in an end-to-end relationship – from the customer-driven order on the one hand to the supply chain on the other – and, of course, in real time». Shantanu Narayen added: «Every single company has to be able to deal with the requirements of its customers. To do this, all business transactions must be digitized and individualized – on the basis of uniform data.»

Well, the Open Data Initiative is a wonderful promise that has only one disadvantage: the cooperation of several large companies usually means that it takes a long time for the common standard to be defined and then implemented to the customer. The goals of the Open Data Initiative can already be easily achieved with the actesy framework – only faster more economically and exactly as you need it.

With actesy’s metadata framework you can unify the most diverse data structures and thus form the basis for a fully integrated user structure that customers and suppliers, mobile users in the cloud as well as machines in the Internet of Things can use. New applications – whether developed in-house or by third parties – can access this shared database from the very beginning.

Of course, we avoid duplicating data unnecessarily in the process. This avoids errors in the business process due to data that has not been updated – in our experience one of the biggest sources of errors in heterogeneous application worlds. The Open Data Initiative – with the actesy framework it can already be reality for you TODAY.

A project for the standardization of data structures offers even more advantages. With data integration, we also make a contribution to compliance and validation because if the origin of the data is clearly determined, the business processes can be described reliably and resiliently. To formulate it strikingly: It is not enough to know, one must also know where it stands.
